We have had our two 13-litre saddlebags in the shop for a few days now. Why two bags with the same volume? Well, firstly, the Saddlebag 13l race-line is actually a 14-litre bag, because the Stretch-Pocket is not included in the volume specification. And secondly, the bags differ in shape and material:
The Saddlebag 13-litre race-line is made of lightweight TPU-coated honeycomb ripstop polyester and is welded. The bag is rather long and slim, so it also fits smaller frames without colliding with the rear wheel. Like the 10-litre race-line version, it has a Stretch-Pocket for snacking on the go.
The Saddlebag 13l race-line comes with a new type of carbon Base Plate. The plate can be attached to the outside of the bottom of the bag and fulfils several functions:
- it provides additional stability for the bag and prevents it from bending downwards
- the rear strap cannot slip and become entangled in the bag
- optionally, a GoPro adapter can be attached to which a rear light (Garmin Varia, Wahoo Trackr, Sigma Reco, etc.) can be securely screwed
The Base-Plate also fits the 13l rough-line and the 10l race-line. It will soon be available separately in the shop.
The Saddlebag 13l rough-line on the other hand, is made from 100% recycled Ecopak and is handmade in Germany by fO.goods, or more precisely by Florian. Ecopack has long been known in the outdoor sector, especially for backpacks and bags, for its durability and low weight. The shape of the bag is significantly more compact and shorter, but has the same volume. This makes it appear more compact on the bike. However, due to its deeper shape, it cannot be used on very small frames or bikes with very little seat post extension. It is therefore essential to measure the distance from the seat stays to the rear wheel beforehand.
And finally, the weights. That is, the system weights with Y-MOUNT and stabiliser fork:
